Visit Mississippi Bicentennial Website a Hub for Statewide Events
Jackson, Mississippi — February 22, 2017 — Visit Mississippi has launched a new website, VisitMississippi.org/200, to guide visitors and media through the state’s year-long Bicentennial celebration.
“The Bicentennial is our opportunity to tell the vibrant story of Mississippi and her people,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “As we celebrate our first 200 years, we look forward in anticipation of a bright future for all Mississippians.”
The Bicentennial will be celebrated throughout 2017, from three marquee Mississippi Bicentennial Celebrations in the south, north and central regions to events large and small in communities around the state. The Bicentennial website is a hub for visitors and activities, with regularly updated information related to the celebration.
“We created this website as the online destination for all Bicentennial events,” said Visit Mississippi Director Craig Ray. “Visitors can find itineraries related to our three marquee events that expand upon the authentic Mississippi experience, as well as search for events throughout the state.”
Statewide events kick off with the Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration South, March 31 at Centennial Plaza in Gulfport, including the Governor’s Concert on April 1 with headliners The Band Perry. Additional state events are planned for Oxford on June 24 and Jackson on Dec. 9 during the grand opening of the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.
The Bicentennial website features information on the south, north and central events, a statewide calendar and a press kit containing resources and information for media. Visitors are encouraged to bookmark the site and check regularly for updates as events and resources are added.
