Jackson, Miss. – (October 1, 2013)  On Friday, Oct. 4, manufacturers will gather during the 2013 Southern Automotive Conference at the Beau Rivage in Biloxi, Miss., to recognize Manufacturing Day. This is a national movement that brings the industry together with the education and public sectors to support the growth and importance of manufacturing jobs. Manufacturing Day also provides opportunities for manufacturers to directly engage with students through regional initiatives that promote the benefits of working in the industry.
Ingalls Shipbuilding Director of Government Affairs and Vice President of the Mississippi Manufacturers Association Jim McIngvale will present a proclamation signed by Gov. Phil Bryant officially recognizing Oct. 4 as Manufacturing Day in Mississippi. Additionally, Melanie Stover, program manager for The Manufacturing Institute, will discuss the manufacturing sector on a national level and the importance of Manufacturing Day, and she will review national credentialing efforts currently in place to increase the talent pool in the industry.
“The manufacturing sector in Mississippi is booming, and this critical component of our economy is showing no signs of slowing down,” said Skip Scaggs, director of MDA’s Existing Industry and Business Division. “Currently, more than 140,000 workers in the state are employed in manufacturing jobs, and the Mississippi Development Authority is committed to making sure our current and future workers are skilled and well-trained by providing customized workforce training programs to meet the unique needs of our manufacturing businesses.”
“Our role in the automotive industry has expanded significantly in recent years, so it is particularly fitting that Manufacturing Day will be acknowledged during the 2013 Southern Automotive Conference,” said Scaggs.
