Biewer Lumber Expanding in Newton
Jackson, Mississippi — November 20, 2018 — Biewer Lumber is expanding its state-of-the-art sawmill in Newton, Mississippi, to increase its mill production by more than 100-million board feet per year. The project is a $40 million corporate investment and will create 45 jobs.

Biewer Lumber’s expansion involves an investment in new equipment and an addition to its existing facility. The company opened its Newton facility, which is officially known as Biewer Sawmill-Newton LLC, in 2016, expanding the company’s mill production into the South. The company also operates four sawmills in the Midwest, as well as three lumber treating/distribution centers.

The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance in support of the project for public road improvements. The city of Newton is also assisting with the project.

Biewer Sawmill-Newton’s expansion will bring employment at the facility to approximately 170 workers.
