MSBDD to Host Government Procurement Opportunities Conference

Vicksburg, Miss. (April 8, 2013) – The Mississippi Development Authority’s (MDA’s) Minority and Small Business Development Division (MSBDD) will host the Government Procurement Opportunities Conference and Trade Show May 8-9, 2013, at the Vicksburg Convention Center and Auditorium, located at 1600 Mulberry Street in Vicksburg, Miss.
Activities on Wednesday, the 8th, include an optional tour of Vicksburg and a crawfish boil welcoming paid attendees, and the conference and trade show will be held on Thursday, the 9th, from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Mississippi’s existing small businesses and new entrepreneurs interested in building relationships and securing business opportunities with federal, state and local government agencies and corporate buyers, all of whom will be on hand at the event, are encouraged to attend. The conference will also promote partnerships and strategic alliances to aid Mississippi businesses in competing in the global marketplace.
“The Mississippi Development Authority has a variety of resources in place to assist the state’s small businesses, and this conference and trade show is one of the ways we can help connect them to a number of new business opportunities,” said Bob Covington, MDA’s MSBDD director. “I encourage any small businesses interested in securing contracts with government agencies and defense contractors and learning more about competing on a global scale to make plans to attend this informational event.”
The conference will feature a session focused on doing business with defense contractors, with speakers from Lockheed Martin, Eaton Aerospace and Northrup Grumman; a session focused on doing business with state government agencies, with speakers from the Department of Finance and Administration, the Mississippi Department of Transportation and the Jackson Airport Authority; and a session focused on doing business with federal government agencies, with speakers from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Small Business Administration and NASA. Additionally, a workshop will be held by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council South, which works to advance and enhance business opportunities between women-owned businesses and corporations through a reputable certification program, education and professional growth opportunities.
