Model Contractor Development Program to Kick Off September 14

Jackson, Mississippi — Sept. 2, 2015 — Mississippi Development Authority will kick off its Model Contractor Development Program workshop series at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14 at the Roy Anderson Corp facility located at 11400 Reichold Road in Gulfport, Mississippi.
The workshop will teach practices to increase operations and bonding capacity to Mississippi’s small contracting companies and businesses. The nine-week workshop series is free of charge, but participants must enroll or already be enrolled in the Mississippi Contractor Procurement Network system (www.mscpc.com) to attend. Additionally, each company’s representative must agree to attend eight of the nine sessions in order to successfully complete the program.
The workshops will be held on Monday evenings, with the exception of the Tuesday, October 13 course. Also, classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., with the exception of the September 14 and November 9 courses, which will be held from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The program schedule follows:

  • Monday, Sept. 14 – 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. – Kickoff and Orientation
  • Monday, Sept. 21 – 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Business Planning and Management for Construction
  • Monday, Sept. 28 – 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Construction Accounting and Financial Management
  • Monday, Oct. 5 –    5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Marketing, Estimating, and Bidding
  • Tuesday, Oct. 13 –  5:30 – 7:30 p.m. – Banking and Financing for Contractors
  • Monday, Oct. 19 –  5:30 – 7:30 p.m. –  Project Management and Field Operations
  • Monday, Oct. 26 –  5:30 –  7:30 p.m. – Bonding and Insurance for New and Emerging Contractors
  • Monday, Nov. 2 –   5:30 – 7:30 p.m. –  Claims and Dispute Resolution
  • Monday, Nov. 9 –   5:30 – 8:30 p.m. –  Success Stories: Managing Growth/Graduation Ceremony

The Gulfport MCDP workshop series is sponsored by MDA, Roy Anderson Corp, the South Mississippi Contract Procurement Center and The Surety and Fidelity Association of America.
