Mississippi’s Energy Assets Fuel Energy Awareness Day
Jackson, Mississippi — October 4, 2017 — More than 1,000 students from across the state will learn why Mississippi is a leader in the energy field at Energy Awareness Day, beginning at 9 a.m., October 5 at the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson.
Sponsored by the Mississippi Development Authority’s Energy and Natural Resources Division, the goal of Energy Awareness Day is to enhance energy education beyond the classroom. The event gives students an opportunity to learn about careers in the energy sector and how energy and natural resources are part of everyday life.
“Energy Awareness Day is an opportunity to showcase the wealth of energy resources and opportunities found in Mississippi,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “The state’s future in the energy field begins with these bright students and STEM programs found around the state.”
The free event features interactive workshops and educational displays highlighting everything from biofuels and electricity generation to recycling and conservation. Energy Awareness Day wraps up at noon.
“Connecting with students and teachers at Energy Awareness Day is an important part of motivating the next generation of energy industry innovators,” said MDA Division Director of Energy and Natural Resources Dr. Sumesh Arora. “The energy sector provides the opportunity for high-paying careers in an industry which thrives in Mississippi.”
Energy Awareness Day is part of Energy Awareness Month proclaimed by Governor Phil Bryant.
