Insitu Partners with FAA’s Center of Excellence for Unmanned Aircraft Systems at MSU

Jackson, Mississippi — May 4, 2016 — Officials from Insitu, Mississippi State University and Mississippi Development Authority participated in a ceremonial lease signing to mark the opening of Insitu’s new facility at MSU in Starkville, Mississippi. The partnership between the company and the Federal Aviation Administration’s Center of Excellence for Unmanned Aircraft Systems at MSU will create 25 jobs.

“Mississippi has long been a leader in the aerospace industry, and now, the state is taking the lead in the field of unmanned aircraft systems,” Governor Bryant said. “I look forward to continued discussions with Insitu to discover possibilities for harnessing their capabilities to meet our state’s needs.”

At MSU, Insitu will support a combination of engineering, software development and business development/customer service support functions.

“We are investing time, talent and resources in Mississippi to develop industry-leading technology that can safely operate in the National Airspace System,” said Insitu President and CEO Ryan M. Hartman. “We believe there are many opportunities in Mississippi, and we look forward to collaborating with MSU in our efforts to positively impact the growing commercial UAS industry.”

“Insitu is the latest example of an innovative aerospace company choosing the state of Mississippi to grow its business,” said MSU Vice President for Research and Economic Development David Shaw. “Mississippi State has a long and successful history of working with these industry leaders in manned and unmanned flight, and we are looking forward to contributing to Insitu’s success.”

“The new Center of Excellence for UAS at MSU creates new careers for Mississippians by partnering with leading technology companies on UAS research initiatives,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough. “We salute the Insitu team for bringing new opportunities to the state and people of Starkville and thank our partners at MSU who were instrumental in making this partnership a reality.”

In May 2015, the FAA selected MSU as the location of the Center of Excellence for UAS. The Alliance for System Safety of UAS through Research Excellence, or ASSURE, leads the center. The ASSURE team is comprised of top UAS universities from three countries and more than 100 government and industry partners.

The ceremonial lease signing was held at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International conference in New Orleans.
