Bicentennial South Celebration
Overlooking the Mississippi Sound in Gulfport, Centennial Plaza was developed for Mississippi’s 100-year celebration, but the outbreak of World War I stopped plans before the party got started. Now a century in the making, the Mississippi Bicentennial Celebration South will take over the grounds April 1 for the Governor’s Concert featuring The Band Perry, Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Paul Thorn, Vasti Jackson and “We Are Mississippi,” an orchestral salute to the state.
Additional events are planned for March 31, including live regional entertainment, a “Salute to Mississippi and the Military” exhibition and the “Taste of Mississippi,” pairing coastal and international cuisine with local craft beers. The United States Postal Service will also unveil the new Mississippi Commemorative Stamp on March 31 at 11 a.m.
Attendees must reserve tickets for each day they wish to attend. Limit six tickets per person.
