From R&D to Shining Sea
Mississippi also drives the shipbuilding industry with brain power. The University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Ocean Science & Engineering operates a fleet of research vessels supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s uncrewed maritime systems programs. The Roger F. Wicker Center for Ocean Enterprise in Gulfport hosts federal and industry research partners with 62,500 square feet of laboratories, training and conference space.
We ensure the highly-skilled workforce with specialized maritime technical programs at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Custom workforce training programs are also possible through our statewide network of universities, including the advanced manufacturing facility at the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence.
