Rethinking the rules. Reworking the formula. Knocking down walls. Finding new paths.
The Asset Development Division helps communities assess local resources and create plans for the future. In doing so, we map the existing assets and make recommendations to use the community’s resources to their maximum advantage. Implementing the recommendations requires strong leadership and broad support. Communities will not change overnight with the asset development approach. Meaningful changes take time. It requires local commitment, and a visible goal; which is all addressed in the asset mapping team’s recommendations.
Mississippi communities are diverse, great places to live, work, worship, and raise families. The State’s uniqueness comes from its assets. Local assets include cultural heritage, hospitality, and natural resources. Asset mapping gives communities a comprehensive inventory of existing assets as seen through the eyes of an unbiased, experienced team. Team members are selected from MS Main Street, MS Arts Commission, MS Department of Archives and History, MS Department of Environmental Quality, state universities, community colleges, utility companies, other communities, private developers, and many MDA Divisions. The asset mapping teams are compiled to bring expertise we believe will be the most helpful in developing that community’s existing assets.
An advantage of working with MDA asset mapping teams is that the community’s unique assets are marketed on the MDA Asset Map that can be viewed by clicking here or using the link http://assetmap.mississippi.org/.
