Golden Triangle Regional Solid Waste Management Authority Receives 2011 Project of the Year Award
The Golden Triangle Solid Waste Management Authority has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the nation’s top renewable energy generation projects. The Starkville-area landfill recently received a 2011 Project of the Year Award from EPA for its landfill gas-to-electricity project in northeast Mississippi.

The project is one of three honored nationally by EPA’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program for excellence, innovation and environmental and economic benefits in landfill gas generation. The Golden Triangle project, Mississippi’s first landfill gas-to-electricity facility, began operation in October and generates enough reliable, renewable energy to power 600 homes. The facility participates in the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Generation Partners renewable power program.
